| Can I be sure that not any files in Fronter are infected by a virus? | A virus scan is done each night, on all files on the file server. If the program finds a file that contains a virus, the program tries to remove the virus without destruction the content of the file. If this is not possible, the file will be deleted, and an email with the path and filename will be sent to the hosting personnel.
So, if the files is older than 1 day, it contains no viruses.
The virus program is called Sophos.

| How can I use Fronter Webmail as default E-mail client? | To change this click on your name on the today page. Scroll down to Personal preferences, and change your Default Mail Client. Set this to Fronter WebMail. Remember to save. This will resolve the problem of sending E-mail to many contacts at the same time. |
The entry I wrote is not displayed in Fronter.
| Check the preferences of your browser to see how often your Web pages are updated. Here is how:
MS Internet Explorer:
Tools > Internet Options > Settings > Select ?Automatically?.
Netscape:
Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Cache for Netscape.
The problem could also be due to settings of your proxy server. The set up the proxy server itself, the proxy for the entire fronter.com domain has to be shut down. This proxy will not affect Fronter, since all the pages are dynamically generated and continually updated. Contact your system administrator for further information. |
Why do I have problems to log on to Fronter?
| This could be caused by many things:
Verify that you are connected to the internet.
See if you try to log on to the correct installation.
You can see this in the address field of your browser.
You may have written an incorrect password. The password verification is sensitive to lower and upper case characters. Check if you have Caps Lock on.
You may have set the security level of your browser to ?High?. This should case an error message ?Your browser must support javascript! Please enable javascript and try again?.
The security level for internet must be set to ?Medium?.
In Internet Explorer you can change this under
Tools-->Internet Options --> Security. |
Why can?t I see the contact information on room members?
| To see a contact in Fronter you must have the organizational right called View Contact. This Organizational right is given to a group on another group. You can, for example, give the Teacher group View contact on the Student group and visa versa. It is also possible to allow all members in a room to see each other by editing the participant list. Uncheck the Checkbox called Hide members the user isn't allowed to see. |
Why does nothing happen when I choose a Room?
| This is probably because your Browser does not support java scripts. In this case you will only get ??? in the upper left side of the frame. In Internet Explorer you can change this under Tools-->Internet Options --> Security. Choose ?Default Level? and set this to ?Medium? for Internet. |

How do I reopen a closed Room?
| Click on the link ?Choose Room? next to the Room selector. Check the Checkbox called ?Closed?.
Choose the Room you would like to Re-open.
In the drop down menu on your upper right side of the Room tool you can choose ?Re-open?.

Why do I get English as default language when I try to log in my building?
| This is probably because your browser is set up to use English as default language and Fronter use the same language as your browser. To change your language settings:
Internet Explorer:
? Choose: Tools/Verkt?y
? Choose Internet Options/Innstillinger
? Choose: Language/Spr?k
? Set Language to Norwegian Bokm?l, or any other language you desire.
Opera:
? Go to Operas homepage http://www.opera.com and download the language your desire.

How can I publish a power point presentation as html with images?
| First you must convert your presentation to html. This will create a main file (htm), and a folder that contains all images. Upload the main file in the Archive tool. Create a folder with the exact same name as the one that office generated, and upload all content of the folder in windows to the folder in Fronter.

What is the difference between the Archive and Document tool?
| The Archive on top with, next to the today page is your personal Archive that no one can access. In a room the difference is that in the Document tool you can only upload files, but in the Archive you can also have Tests, Links, Shared documents and Documents.

What Video formats can be played in the Archive?
| In the Archive you can play *.ram, *.avi, *.mov og *.mpeg.

What is the difference between POP3 and IMAP?
| POP3 download your E-mail from your E-mail server to your
E-mail client (FronterMail). Since the browser cannot store anything, all mails in your Inbox will be deleted when you close your browser. IMAP only downloads a copy from the
E-mail server. With IMAP you will see all mails that you have received. The E-mail will be stored on the E-mail server until you physically delete it.

How can I contribute or reply to contribution in a discussion?
| To create a new contribution you select the drop down menu in the upper right side marked ?Choose?. Select the ?New Discussion? item. To reply to a contribution, click on the contribution. Click on ?Answer? on the upper right side or on the lower right side of the contribution.

Why is it impossible to send mails to many contacts at the same time?
| It seems to be a bug in the operating systems Windows 98 and in NT 4.0 related to mass distribution of E-mails. When you try to send an E-mail, all addresses is put on one long line that are sent to the mail client (for example Outlook). This text cannot be longer than 255 or 456 characters.
The error seems to be corrected in Windows 2000.
It is possible to avoid this in Outlook and Outlook express by manually copy all addresses and paste them into the ?to?field of your E-mail client.

How can I use Fronter Webmail as default E-mail client?
| To change this click on your name on the today page. Scroll down to ?Personal preferences?, and change your ?Default Mail Client?. Set this to ?Fronter WebMail?. Remember to save. This will resolve the problem of sending E-mail to many contacts at the same time.

How can I download a shared document?
| To download a shared document choose ?Download document? in the dropdown menu marked ?Choose? in the upper right side of the frame. Then you get the finished document up in your browser. You can now save it as a html file or a text file by using the ?Save As? option in your browser. If you click on the ?Download? symbol you will get a Zip file containing the html document. To read this file, it will require that you have WinZip or a similar program installed on your Pc.

What is a LMS?
| LMS is short for Learning Management System. The Learning Technology Sub committee of IEEE defines it as ?An integrated collection of software and services, and possibly hardware, employing learning technology to administer, facilitate, or control processes involved in learning, education, or training.? Classfronter is a LMS. |
Why does nothing happen when I choose a Room?

| Can I use mathematical formulas in Fronter documents? | Yes, you can. There is a plug-in in Fronter called WebEq that enables you to use mathemathical formulas and equations in Fronter.
Because WebEQ is based on Java and MathML technology, solutions you develop will be platform- and browser-independent.
WebEQ requires a separate license. Please contact your local administrator for more information, or contact Fronter for more information. |
| Why is the page, menues and/or archive in Fronter blank? | This happens often when you have a firewall, i.e. Norton Internet Security, installed on your computer. The easiest fix is to temporarily turn of the firewall while connected to Fronter, but this is not recommended for safety reasons. Please check your firewall's homepages for information on how to allow all traffic to and from the domain fronter.com. |
| It's not possibel to use change tables in the Editor. | Fronter uses the standard HTML editors in its application.
This is standard in the browser. Unfortunately in the earlier versions of Internet Explorer it was not supported to change the table once it was inserted. It is possible in the newer versions, like IE 6.0 by using the buttons to the right of the table buttons.

| In Windows 98, ID5.0, the html editors do not format text, or do not appear at all. | The editors are third party software developed by Microsoft or Mozilla (midas editor). I believe they were introduced around year 2000, without backwards compatibility. Meaning that IE 5.0/Win98 does not support the browser.
1) Set the editor personal preference on the contact card to "default". In this case the program will detect if your browser support any of the browser or none. If it does not support any of the browsers, the user will be presented with a text area.
